• Add or remove the Internet Explorer 8 compatibility tag according to one of the following possibilities:
  • The page will be rendered in quirks mode.
  • The page will be rendered in Internet Explorer 7 standards mode even if no DOCTYPE is present.
  • The page will be rendered as Internet Explorer 7 does. This is the preferred compatibility mode.
  • The preference is to use Internet Explorer 8 as default rendering engine and the most standards compliant mode.
  • You’ll prepare your pages to render with any future Internet Explorer version, always using the latest rendering engine.
• Preserves file formatting, indentation and spacing: Thanks to the robust and precise tool parsers, the entire original file formatting is preserved; only surgical changes are made on web pages.
• Preserves file dates: When overwriting files, the original files dates will be preserved.
• Process result report.
• Allows file overwrite or backup.
• Supported file types: asp, aspx, htm, html, dhtml, xhtml, php, master.

The Internet Explorer 8 Compatibility Wizard automates the browser version targeting task. It will never break or change how your pages look in browsers other than IE8.

Internet Explorer 8 has a more rigorous adherence to W3C-proposed web standards than previous versions. As a result, some percentage of web pages built according to older versions would break in Internet Explorer 8.

To avoid this situation, Microsoft proposed Internet Explorer version targeting by defining a tag compatibility or adjusting HTTP headers in the web server.
