ArtinSoft Web Optimizer Quick Start

ArtinSoft Web Optimizer is a tool that allows you to transform pieces of your source code to change some of their properties.

The metaphor used by ArtinSoft Web Optimizer is one of Search and Transform:

  • Step 1: The first thing you need to do is select where you want to Search
  • Step 2: Then select what feature you want to apply
  • Step 3: Once the feature is applied, ArtinSoft Web Optimizer provides a sophisticated explain mechanism to let you understand what are the changes and give you the opportunity to accept them or discard them.

The Search Phase

Features can be applied on different elements of the source code. You can apply them on the selected code in the source editor, on the current document or on an object in the Solution Explorer (one file, several files, directory, project, solution). You always invoke Web Optimizer by selecting the object that you want to use as input to the feature and then using the context menu you select Aggiorno.

The Transform Phase

Once you select Web Optimizer on a specific code selection (remember the selection can also be a collection of files) a list of available features pops up. You need to decide what operation you need to do on the source code and simply select it. Once you have selected it, ArtinSoft Web Optimizer will perform its magic and change your code according to your desires.

There are two basic types of features. The feature that do not require parameters and those that does. If a features does not require a parameter (e.g.: Fix XHTML Structural Errors) then Web Optimizer will go directly to the Explain Phase. If a parameter is required (e.g.: Add Alternate Text to Images) ArtinSoft Web Optimizer will create a task list window where you will input the corresponding values.

The Explain Phase

A very important difference between ArtinSoft Web Optimizer and other tools that also perform changes on the web source code is the Explain Feature. ArtinSoft Web Optimizer really cares about your source code! ArtinSoft Web Optimizer minimizes the changes to the source code and localizes them as much as possible. Why is this important? Because Web Optimizer will never mess with your source code indentation! Additionally ArtinSoft Web Optimizer can always show you what changes it performed. You have the opportunity to review them one by one and decide to apply them or not.
